On Tuesday, August 13, Wellstar and Kennesaw State University (KSU) announced an exciting expansion to their long-standing partnership. The collaboration is designed to enhance the health and well-being of KSU’s student athletes and enables Wellstar to play an active role in providing world-class care for not only the KSU student athlete community, but for athletes regionally and nationally.

The partnership includes three main enhancements:

  • Wellstar has provided the leading funds for KSU’s new Athletics Performance Complex and Sports Medicine Center. This center will provide KSU student athletes with a state-of-the art training and conditioning facility as they compete in Conference USA. Through Wellstar’s support and funding, and pending approval from the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, the new complex will ensure over 450 student athletes have access to key healthcare resources, including injury prevention and treatment, physical therapy and hydrotherapy. The center’s comprehensive features will also include a strength and conditioning suite, weight room, banquet hall, training tables and more.
  • KSU and Wellstar will collaborate to create the College Center for Research on Human Performance and Well-being. The center will enable university researchers, healthcare providers and athletes to collaborate and explore new technological methods for improving athlete performance and well-being. This cutting-edge research will directly support the physical and mental wellness needs of KSU’s student athletes and care for future generations of athletes.
  • Wellstar will serve as the exclusive orthopedics and sports medicine provider, partner and sponsor of the Kennesaw State Athletics Association, beginning July 1, 2026. This enhancement will allow Wellstar to provide necessary health services and care to KSU’s student athletes.

Wellstar and KSU have partnered since the 1990s to positively impact the healthcare landscape, and these enhancements build on the two institutions’ shared commitment to the local community. Wellstar is the named donor of KSU’s Wellstar College of Health and Human Services and its Wellstar School of Nursing. In 2020, Wellstar committed $9 million to support KSU’s goal of doubling enrollment in its Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, which is helping address Georgia’s pressing need for nurses. Additionally, Wellstar operates and manages KSU’s on-campus student health clinics.

Although the impact of this partnership will start on KSU’s campus, the knowledge, innovative ideas, and improved practices that stem from it will reverberate throughout Georgia and shape the health of our communities for the better. The signing ceremony, which took place at the KSU Convocation Center, celebrated this expanding partnership and featured student athletes, community members and leaders from KSU, Wellstar and The University System of Georgia.
