Last July, the Wellstar Cobb Regional Health Board set a goal to raise $30,000 to enhance services for patients undergoing cancer care at the hospital. Recently, board member Angelia Pressley partnered with the Welcome to South Cobb Festival to donate $1,250 toward this goal.

The board is specifically raising funds to purchase cooling caps for the oncology team.  Cooling Caps are used with patients undergoing specific chemotherapy regiments that induce hair loss. The cold constricts blood vessels and prevents the cancer-fighting chemicals from reaching hair follicles. Scalp-cooling, which some patients say feels like having an ice pack on your head, can help many patients save all or most of their hair from falling out. In turn, helping to maintain privacy and enhancing overall physical and mental wellbeing.

Each cooling cap device costs $10,000. If you would like to join the Wellstar Cobb Regional Health Board in this initiative, you can make a one-time or recurring donation to the Wellstar Foundation in support of cancer care online at wellstar.org/give.
