For many, retirement marks the end of a career. But for some Wellstar volunteers, it’s the beginning of something even more meaningful. 

Two dedicated volunteers at Wellstar Kennestone Medical Center found renewed purpose, connection and fulfillment through service in the hospital gift shop. For volunteer Corky Bowers, what began as a way to stay connected to healthcare after retirement became something more. The moments she experiences—both joyful and challenging—leave a lasting impact. For Margie Crawford, volunteering became a source of stability and community over time, offering connection and purpose through life’s changes. 

Inside the gift shop, these volunteers help patients and families navigate life’s most meaningful moments, from celebrating a new baby to offering comfort during difficult times. In between transactions, they provide something just as important: a listening ear, a kind word and a sense of human connection.  

Together, their stories reflect a powerful truth: giving your time can be just as meaningful as giving financially.
