Last week, patients, families, team members, community leaders and supporters gathered to celebrate the naming of Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia, marking a milestone in the future of pediatric care across Georgia.

The celebration honored the extraordinary generosity of Tom Golisano, whose historic $50 million gift is the largest in the history of Wellstar and the children’s hospital. The investment will help strengthen specialized pediatric care and expand opportunities for children and families for generations to come.

While the new name is visible on the hospital’s exterior today, its meaning goes far beyond signage. As Ralph Turner, president of Wellstar MCG Health, shared during the celebration, the gift represents an investment not only in the care provided today, but in what will be possible for future generations of patients and families.

The impact is already taking shape. The gift will help strengthen the hospital’s foundation for pediatric excellence, beginning with the creation of a new Pediatric Cardiac ICU and supporting future enhancements that advance care for children throughout the region.

The celebration also recognized another important milestone: the hospital’s membership in the Golisano Children’s Alliance, a national network of children’s hospitals dedicated to expanding access to care, enhancing pediatric services and improving health outcomes for children and families. Through the Alliance, Wellstar will have opportunities to collaborate with leading pediatric institutions across the country, sharing best practices and exploring new ways to improve care.

Most importantly, the day was a celebration of the people behind the care. Every day, physicians, nurses, clinicians and team members at Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia provide expert, compassionate care to children facing some of life’s most difficult health challenges. Their dedication and commitment have built a children’s hospital worthy of this transformational investment.
